Community Guidelines
Last updated
MY-BOOK works best when people share what they know and disagree kindly. These guidelines apply to posts, comments, profiles and anything else you share here.
Be respectful
- Challenge ideas, not people. Disagree as you would face to face, without insults, name-calling or pile-ons.
- Assume good intent, and remember there's a real person behind every post and comment.
No hate or harassment
- No attacks on people because of their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or age.
- No threats, bullying, stalking or encouraging others to target someone.
- Don't share anyone's private information, such as their address, phone number or photos, without their permission.
- No sexually explicit content, and nothing that sexualises or endangers children.
No spam or link dropping
- Don't post link-only comments, repeated promotion or the same comment on lots of posts.
- Links are welcome when they genuinely help the conversation. Shortened links, lots of links, and links from brand-new accounts are more likely to wait for review.
- Don't try to boost views, likes, follows or shares artificially.
No misleading claims
- Don't present opinions as facts, or make up quotes, statistics, reviews or credentials.
- Say where your facts come from, and correct mistakes when you spot them.
- Take extra care with health, safety, money, legal and building topics, and suggest professional advice where it matters.
- Don't publish AI-generated text or images in a way that misleads readers.
Disclose affiliations
If you're paid, sponsored or gifted something, or you work for or own the business you're writing about, say so clearly in your post or comment, for example with “Ad” or “Gifted”. Readers deserve to know, and UK advertising rules require it.
Keep it on topic
- Comments should relate to the post. Add something useful: a question, an experience or a different view.
- Start a conversation, not a sales pitch.
- Only post content you have the right to share, and credit other people's work.
How reporting works
See a comment that breaks these guidelines? Use Report on the comment and choose a reason: spam, harassment, hate, misleading, off-topic or other. You can add a short note.
- Reports are private. We don't tell the commenter who reported them.
- When a comment gets several reports (three by default), it's hidden automatically until a moderator has reviewed it.
- To report a post or a profile, use our contact page and include the link.
What moderation does
Automatic checks
Every comment is checked when it's posted. Comments with links, flagged words or spam-like patterns may wait for review before anyone else can see them, and you'll see that yours is awaiting review. Obvious spam is hidden straight away.
Limits
To stop flooding, you can post up to 5 comments in 2 minutes, and you can't post the same comment twice within 24 hours. Posting a lot of comments in an hour, or the same text as other accounts, means comments wait for review.
People
- Authors can approve, hide or delete comments on their own posts. Our moderators can do the same anywhere on MY-BOOK.
- Repeated or reported comments can be hidden.
- Accounts can be blocked from commenting, for a time or permanently.
- Serious or repeated breaches can lead to posts being removed or accounts being closed, as set out in our Terms of Use.
How to appeal
If you think we got it wrong, for example a comment that was held or hidden, a post that was removed or a commenting block, contact us through our contact page. Include the link and a short explanation. A person will review it and let you know the outcome.
